Anthony Leigh Egerton Hoskyns-Abrahall was the Anglican Bishop of Lancaster from 1955 until 1975.〔(thePeerage.com )〕 Hoskyns-Abrahall was educated at Britannia Royal Naval College and Westcott House, Cambridge.〔''Who's Who 1970'', London, A & C Black, 1971, ISBN 0-7136-1140-5〕 He was ordained in 1931 and was a curate at St Mary’s Portsea before becoming a chaplain at Shrewsbury School. During the Second World War was a chaplain with the RNVR〔''Crockford's Clerical Directory 1975-76'' London: Oxford University Press, 1976 ISBN 0-19-200008-X〕 and was then Vicar of St Michael’s Aldershot before his ordination to the episcopate.
